PROJECT OVERVIEW

The UM Circadian Lab is a specialized research environment designed to study sleep and circadian rhythms in a fully controlled setting. The project brings together advanced lighting technology, acoustical strategies, and hospitality inspired comfort to support patients who stay in the lab for several days at a time. Telelumen fixtures are used in the sleep suites and key testing areas to create precise light conditions that mimic natural cycles, while circulation and support spaces use dimmable architectural lighting to maintain flexibility. The design focuses on reducing stress through soft curves, warm materials, and biophilic elements that help patients feel grounded and at ease. Clinical needs are carefully integrated into the layout, including pass throughs, data access, storage, and quiet fixtures that support accurate sleep evaluation. The result is a calm, research driven environment that balances scientific precision with a welcoming, hotel like experience.
