PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Jackson Memorial Emergency Department is envisioned as a contemporary and welcoming care environment that reflects the identity of Jackson Health System. The design focuses on creating a calm and organized experience for patients and families while supporting the high acuity needs of a major urban hospital. Warm materials, layered textures, and hospitality inspired elements help soften the intensity of the ED and introduce a sense of comfort. Clear wayfinding strategies guide visitors through a large and complex layout that includes adult care, pediatric care, imaging, behavioral health, and observation units. The pediatric environment receives its own playful and uplifting design language, while the adult areas maintain a refined and modern character. Throughout the project, the team developed visioning concepts, material palettes, and spatial studies that establish a cohesive identity for the future ED.
